The biggest issue I had with Black Thorns was the surprise link that connects Naomi to Sebastian. I really never expected to have mixed emotions about the crazy twist that took Naomi and Sebastian’s story from something dark and sensually depraved (in the first book Red Thorns) to a depressing reunion that was strangely predictable and boring. She’s mysterious and secretive, even during her inner moments, so much so that I felt left out of big chunks of her life, especially during her years without Sebastian. Naomi is the one who has a drastic personality change since Red Thorns. After everything he has been through, I didn’t expect anything less from him. Their forced separation has made Sebastian nasty and cold with everyone around him. Years may have passed since one decision ruined their lives, but the moment Naomi and Sebastian get together there is still a dark and deliciously deviant pull between them that can’t be denied. Maybe I should have anticipated a better story for Naomi and Sebastian, instead. So when I started Black Thorns, I anticipated more of their love/hate story while finding out more about the mysterious danger surrounding Naomi and also who Akira, her Japanese pen pal, truly is to her.
